Spring cleaning

Quite excited! We ordered a new kind of paint today. We saw this paint at one of the conventions we attended. Can’t wait for it to arrive to start painting. Making a list. It takes so little to make us happy :)

Spring surprises ?

Has there been romance in the air?

Spring around the corner?

Spring must be around the corner. Josephine (my little batam hen) wants to nest. Josephine and Grandpa Gene are having a regular “talk” on who gets to keep the eggs. Problem: it takes 21 days to hatch babies. 21 days. It will still be a bit to cold for babies.

Carolyn’s Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch Spring School Tours

17607 NE 52nd Street
Liberty, MO 64068
816-781-9196

Thank you for your interest in Carolyn’s Country Cousins Spring Tour. The Spring Earth Science Tours will include Uncle Earls Mining Camp (Rocks and Minerals). Fossil Dig (new Fall 2009) and Simple Machines (new 2009).

Briefly:

Student, educators and chaperones will assemble in the red science barn where they receive an educational presentation focused on rocks & minerals, native soils, and finally touching on Missouri history. Depending on the size of the group they may be divided into three rotating groups:

Mining Camp:
Using team work, each child receives a bag of sand rough to mine in the water powered sluice trough. Each bag is different; however each child should expect to yield a good handful of rough gem stones.

Simple Machines: (New Spring 2009)
There will be an opportunity to experience the use of simple machines in an outdoor environment. Machines are extremely important to the farm operation. Simple machines make work easier for us to do our jobs.
1. Pulley. We have several pulleys in a variety of sizes. The children will use the and rope to raise, lower and move a load.
2. Lever.
3. Wedge
4. Wheel and Axle
5. Inclined Plane
6. Screw

Fossil Dig: (New Fall 2009)
The Fossil Dig is 10 ft by 30 ft with six inches of sand covering over 30 fossil casts. The children are encouraged to be junior paleontologists with their brushes to discover the fossils. They will have the opportunity to identify their find, cover it up, rotate and find another.

What do we do all winter …

While part of us attend different conferences, Grandma is home cooking. She says she will have a list of new treats soon.

Winter Conferences

A popular question this time of year … “what do you do all winter?” Answer … we go to school (sort of). We go to alot of conferences. Meet alot of people who do agri-tourism .. ie pumpkin patches and more. We learn how to make school tours better and arrange to make more “Fun on the Farm”! We are lucky to have good teachers.
